The Art –
The formation of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood in 1848 by seven young artists and writers, including Dante Gabriel Rossetti, William Holman Hunt, and John Everett Millais, was the starting point for a movement which had a profound effect on Victorian cultural life. The Pre-Raphaelites sought to rescue art from the triviality and sterility into which it had fallen and to make it become once more an expression of social and personal commitment.
